My husband Ian’s mother, Mary, died last week (aged 95). This wasn’t totally unexpected as her health had been gradually declining over the past four years and deteriorating rapidly in the last few weeks. Ian’s mum was a strong Salvationist and a lovely person. In the Salvation Army they don’t talk about a member’s ‘death’. The term they use is ‘Promoted to Glory’. Myself, I don’t know whether or not there is an afterlife, but I do find the idea of my mum-in-law being ‘promoted to Glory’ strangely satisfying.
Jean: I’d never heard of this and think it’s such a positive idea. Sending support and yes, I agree with your reaction to the idea of being “Promoted to Glory”. Take care.
